Museums, Museums, Museums!
Have never been to Sacramento and know absolutely nothing about the region (except it's the state capitol of California). So I figure why not write a column for the ITJ with tourist information.
I will be surfing the Internet on the look-out for those of us who haven't a clue about the Sacramento area, but are looking forward to attending the convention and perhaps a few days before and after.
The Sacramento area is home to many museums. A surfing trip over the Internet waves brings a lot of interesting results for pre and post convention vacationing.
Sacramento History Museum - Formerly the Discovery Museum's Gold Rush History Center, the Sacramento History Museum is housed in the replicated 1854 City Hall and Waterworks building in Old Sacramento, features interactive exhibits that bring to life the great Gold Rush of 1849. California Museum for History, Women and the Arts - Home of the California Hall of Fame, this museum preserves, presents and creates California history. Discovery Museum Science & Space Center - This museum is home to the Challenger Learning Center and houses Sacramento's only public planetarium, an animal discovery room, nature trails and a wildlife pond. The Learning Center offers open-to-the-public space missions seven Fridays per year: call for more information. Challenger simulated space missions are also offered for groups, clubs, businesses, and other organizations. Educational programming includes a hands-on archaeology dig, Challenger Learning Center space missions, planetarium programs, live animal programs, self guided museum tours, geology, and more.
